many ใช้กับคำนามนับได้เท่านั้น ใช้ในประโยคคำถามและประโยคปฏิเสธเป็นหลัก

จะใช้ในประโยคบอกเล่าได้เมื่ออยู่หลัง so / as / too เช่น You made too many mistakes.
a lot of หรือ lots of เป็นวลีที่เป็นภาษาพูด แต่จะไม่ใช้ในการวัดระยะทาง หรือเวลา
I stayed in England many weeks. หรือ I stayed in England quite a few weeks. แต่จะไม่ใช้ว่า I stayed in England a lot of weeks.
เมื่อใช้ a lot of หรือ lots of ในความหมายว่า มาก (many) จะต้องใช้กับกริยา (verb) ที่เป็นพหูพจน์ เช่น
Lots of people like Italian food.
