much ใช้กับคำนามนับไม่ได้เท่านั้น ส่วนมากใช้กับประโยคคำถามและประโยคปฏิเสธ

How much experience have you had?
a lot หรือ lots of (ไม่เป็นทางการ) เป็นภาษาที่ใช้กันทั่วไป
How much (money) does she earn? “A lot!”
นอกจากนี้อาจใช้คำว่า plenty of ก็ได้ วลีนี้ใช้ได้ทั้งประโยคคำถามและประโยคปฏิเสธ
คำว่า a lot of หรือ lots of ยังคงให้ความรู้สึกเป็นภาษาพูดโดยเฉพาะกับคนอังกฤษ ถ้าเราจะใช้ภาษาเขียนให้ใช้ much / a great deal of / a large amount of แทนจะดีกว่า
very much กับ a lot ใช้เป็นกริยาวิเศษณ์ (adverbs) ได้ เช่น
I miss my family very much. แต่ไม่ใช้ I miss very much my family.

ในประโยคปฏิเสธเราใช้คำว่า much ได้ เช่น I didn’t enjoy the film (very) much.
